NOTES / HISTORY & IMAGINATION
Where the
images begin.
An original commissioned poem about Dominic Marrocco, written for this website. It is not presented as his own writing.
A poem, with a record beside it.
Documented professional and educational contributions provide the starting points. The poem’s scenes, voices, weather and gestures are imaginative. They are not eyewitness testimony, private recollections or quotations from Dominic Marrocco.
The five movements travel from connection to infrastructure, educational opportunity, student enterprise and a return to the person at the other end. The source notes below explain the historical anchors without turning poetic imagery into biographical claims.

Firstnet and internet infrastructure
A corporate announcement records Firstnet’s founding in 1996 and Marrocco’s later work developing the 186k group. Those records inform the poem’s imagery of networks, rooms and messages. The poem does not describe an observed event inside a particular data centre.

Bournemouth: a chair supported, a door opened
Bournemouth University’s 2011 strategy records Marrocco’s support for its entrepreneurship chair and a named centre. The double meaning of “chair” is poetic. The source describes his support for an academic post; it does not say he held that chair.

The scholarship announcement
An original university page preserved in an August 2010 archive capture advertises ten named full-tuition MBA scholarships and credits Marrocco’s donation. It inspires the poem’s concern with the time and opportunity to study. The capture date is not a verified publication date.

Las Vegas and the next attempt
UNLV’s 2012 announcement records the naming of its Southern Nevada business-plan competition and Marrocco’s four-year funding offer, chiefly for prizes. The student, drawing and table in the poem are imaginative images, not a transcript or a description of a named participant.

An institutional profile
UNLV’s historical engineering profile identifies Marrocco as entrepreneur in residence and honorary fellow, and describes his connection to Leeds. These are historical institutional descriptions. The poem’s treatment of place and memory is its own imaginative work.
